Image Morse Code Translator

Morse code puzzle kit

Six clues you can use in a puzzle or lesson, with PNG images, WAV audio and an answer file. Create your own below.

Encode, export, then verify

  1. Type a short message. Use A–Z, numbers and the punctuation shown in the alphabet chart.
  2. Check word breaks. The tool writes single spaces between letters and / between words.
  3. Download the image or WAV. Reopen the actual exported file in the image reader or audio reader. Verify the result matches your intended message.
  4. For a link puzzle, open “Share this message or make a puzzle”, choose a speed and tick “Hide English answer”. Copy the message link and open it in a separate tab to check it.

Hiding the answer is a presentation option. The link still contains the Morse code, so anybody can reveal or decode it. It is not encryption.

Type a message or edit the Morse code. Both directions work.

One space separates letters. Use / or three spaces between words. Dots and dashes within one letter stay together.

Share this message or make a puzzle

Avoid accidental ambiguity

Do not remove the letter spaces to make a puzzle harder unless guessing the grouping is the puzzle. ... can be S, EI, IE, EEE or several other readings after different splits. The translator shows possible splits for short unbroken streams; it cannot reconstruct missing context.

Resizing an exported image unevenly can change dot and dash proportions. A caption or border can look like another mark to the reader. Keep the original aspect ratio, leave whitespace around the code and test the final version that your players will see.

Reuse

These original clues are CC0 1.0. You may adapt them. For classroom handouts, use the printable worksheet and separate answer key. For image-reader failures, inspect the public test set.
